Environmental Testing

Wiring check

  1. Measure all connector pins for shorts and continuity.
  2. Measure thermopile resistance.

Sensitivity

  1. Measure output under bright light. This is not a calibration test.

Hot Test (with cold water douse)

  1. Put sensors in the environmental chamber under a fixed light.
  2. Bring temperature to 60 C and hold for >12 hrs.
  3. Remove sensors from chamber and spray with room temperature water spray to simulate a heavy rainfall.
  4. Return unit to the environmental chamber.

Cold Test

  1. Rapidly cool chamber to < -40 C.
  2. Leave units in the chamber for >12 hrs.
  3. Remove from the chamber and allow to warm to room temperature.

Final Items

  1. Complete the test form. Record calibrations and serial numbers as needed.
  2. Fill out the routing sheet.
  3. Send each sensor with routing sheet to the calibration site (NREL).
  4. Send a copy of all paper work to TWPPO.
  5. File original test procedures and all associated paperwork at BNL.

FAILURE SUMMARY

  1. DL s/n 035 cold-hot failure 8/96

  2. Configuration Software/Calibration Error - 8/96
Current Configuration Software:
SKY960820 --
Derived from the earlier ARCS-1 version 951025.00.

Radiometer Channels

The radiometer channels are the most critical to the measurement. Accuracies of 0.1% are expected with full-scale input 10 mv for the PSP and 1 mv for the PIR sensors. This translates to input signals of 10 microvolts and 1 microvolt respectively. There are many places where these signals can be corrupted.

NOTE: The current SKY configuration software (v204) for the ZENO data loggers exhibits excellent calibration stability. The configuration testing is described in (DL TEST)
